What Is Northern Colorado Clean Cities?

NCCC is a membership based non-profit organization made up of local business men and women, other interested volunteers, and government entities - all working to make a change for the better.

In 1996 the City of Fort Collins, Larimer County, City of Greeley, Weld County, Rocky Mountain National Park, and several area businesses came together, signed a Memorandum of Understanding and formed the Clean Cities Coalition. The guiding mission has always been to reduce petroleum use in the transportation sector. Now the mission specifically includes idle reduction, blends, hybrid technologies, and fuel economy.

In 2010 NCCC stakeholders reduced their petroleum use by 1,057,143 gasoline gallon equivalents.

Every year NCCC organizes two meetings with a speaker and or tour, and two meetings as events, similar to advancing the choice style workshops -- speakers, exhibits, food, and door prizes. Meetings and events are free to attend. NCCC offers exhibit space and sponsorship opportunities to all members. Please inquire with the Coordinator about membership, sponsorship opportunities and hosting an event.

NCCC’s Vision is that significant petroleum reduction is met in five years and in part demonstrated by the statements below.

1. All fleets in our area have goals and objectives for reducing their petroleum use including reporting their project successes and failures with us. and
2. All fleets in our area know who and what Clean Cities is and where to get information on alternative fuel and other petroleum reduction programs.

Existing Boundaries

Historically defined as Weld, Larimer, and Boulder County. Late in 2009 this area was expanded to include: Garfield, Grand, Jackson, Larimer, Logan, Moffat, Morgan, Phillips, Rio Blanco, Routt, Washington, Weld, and Yuma counties and the City of Boulder (Boulder area overlaps with Denver metro area).

History and Organization Structure

In 1996, NCCC was designated by the US Department of Energy as a Clean Cities Coalition, named Weld and Larimer County and Rocky Mountain National Park Clean Cities. Originally started as a project within the City of Fort Collins Natural Resources, this Clean Cities Coalition has since incorporated and become a standalone non-profit. A Steering Committee, also called the Board of Directors directs and employees a coordinator, but the Coordinator was written into original by-laws as a voting member of this committee and has leadership capabilities for the organization, as do the President and Executive Director. The Coordinator in turn employs and manages all contract labor and other activities. Ad hoc committees help provide direction and work on a variety of things. Current committees include a Membership and Promotion Committee and Financial Committee, these are expected to continue meeting through the next 1-3 years.

The coalition offers individual dues at $50, $100 for non-profits, and $250 for agencies, governments and businesses. Statewide Clean Cities membership is being offered for $500. You choose your primary coalition area, but get basic membership in all three Colorado Coalitions. Check out new Colorado website and statewide events calendar.

• Free access to th e NCCC Clean Fleet program - new in 2010. Includes use of logo on your alternative fuel vehicles and help with a customized petroleum reduction plan. We can add business sponsors to this program - please inquire if interested!
• Business name listed on event and meeting agendas (meeting attendance ranges from 15-100 - fleet managers and others attend). Join by March 1, 2010 to be included in four meetings or events for 2010.
• Listing and active link to your website on NorthColoCleanCities.com- over 70,000 hits in 2010.
• Your local petroleum reduction stories posted at NorthColoCleanCities.com.
• E-mail updates on a variety of alternative fuel & fuel economy topics - receive about 5-15 e-mails a month on funding and other petroleum reduction news (our portfolio includes hydraulic hybrids, hybrids, idle reduction, other diesel reduction strategies, ethanol, biodiesel, CNG and more - get on our list and find out more!).
• Invitation to show alternative fuel vehicles, related products or related concepts at our events 3-5 times a year (as above - 15-100 fleet attendees, often more will browse vehicles and outdoor exhibits too, e.g. at the Poudre Learning Center we had a couple hundred elementary students and their chaperones through the expo, and in our 2008 Boulder Odyssey event hundreds of area patrons walked through the convenient expo of vehicles and topic displays in front of the library).
• Ability to serve on NCCC's Steering Committee, helping to direct our alternative fuel activities here in northern Colorado.
• Timely grant announcements , lists of alternative fuel vehicles available, and other useful information.
• New customers and shared lessons from neighbor fleet managers here in Northern Colorado.
